Journalism

The high school Journalism course revolves around production of the school newspaper, The Echo. Students use this hands on experience, together with textbook and other materials, to learn skills in news, feature, editorial and other types of writing, in addition to interviewing, editing, lay out, advertising and photography. Students are welcome to take this course more than one year, usually with the goal of assuming editors’ and other leadership positions within the newspaper. This is a yearlong course. Participation for only one semester is discouraged and requires instructor permission. This class will work at times with the Web Design class to help create content for the current high school website. Students may sign up for Journalism in the Spring Semester, provided they have taken Journalism during a previous year. (Prerequisite: 10th – 12th grade)
